The other day I was reading Mark 6 when I came across some words that I had not noticed before. Jesus was in Nazareth and the text says, “he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. And he marveled because of their unbelief.” (Mark 6:5, emphasis mine)
Have you ever thought that we could stop God’s blessings and healing simply because of our unbelief? God can do whatever he wants and whenever he wants, but He is still a gentleman and respects our belief. What belief do you have of Him? Please note that I am not implying we can detain almighty God from producing miracles, but what I am saying is that at times our unbelief gets in the way of what He ultimately wants to bless us with- our own healing. Unbelief says that I know better. It says we cannot possibly fathom a miracle happening right now. It says, maybe tomorrow- but not today; surely He is not moving right now.
One of my favorite allegories of God has got to be Aslan from the Chronicles of Narnia. "Aslan is on the move,” the Narnians would say, and those who secretly did not believe were eventually shocked to see almighty Aslan intervene to save and bring Narnia back to its former glory. Lucy was always the lucky one who knew that Aslan was around, she could sense him, feel him, and had the hope that everyone failed to have during the worst of times. My question is: Am I like lucy, or am I like some of those doubtful Narnians?
Later in that same chapter of Mark we find another miracle- the feeding of the five thousand. What a mighty work that was, but still some doubted. Even his own disciples. “For they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened” (V. 52). Could it be that the reason we limit God’s hand is because of our hardened hearts?
When I talk about the mighty works- I am referring to when the supernatural meets our natural world. There is a bridge there that many have been able to witness, but so many lack this experience due to fear, unbelief, or simply laziness (not wanting to put in the work and time spent with God). As the world gets a little more challenging each day, and dare I say impossible to live in- let the God of the impossible soften your heart, so that you may see beyond what your physical eyes can see. This world that we live in- it’s not forever, but it doesn’t mean we wait stagnantly with faithless hearts. We must cross the bridge of unbelief so that we may once again see Mighty Works.
I love this Michel, thanks for the reminder to keep my eyes peeled for the supernatural ♥️🥹 he’s always on the move!
